Si fa sempre più ampia la disponibilità di cartografia digitale e possibilità di utilizzo da pagine internet e dispositivie mobile.

Per l'accesso da internet la scena è dominata da Google che offre potenti stumenti come Google Maps e Google Earth con avnzate funzionalità di condivisione e particolarmente adatte a sviluppo di applicazioni Web2.0 (vedi giscover.com). Anche i competitors non stanno a dormire e i grandi nomi del mondo informatico e della comunicazione lanciano il contrattacco con piattaforme simili (Yahoo, Microsoft, SEAT Pagine Gialle, Nokia...).

Si va sempre più affermando la distribuzione di cartografia in modalità ASP e il formato ECW è ideale a tale scopo, consentendo un download ottimizzato anche per cartografia ad alta definizione.

Per l'Italia il Ministero dell'Ambiente mette a disposizione gratuitamente agli utenti registrati una base cartografica molto dettagliata di tutto il territorio in ofrmato ortofoto e IGM.

Da CompeGPS sarà possibile visualizzare mappe ECW in modalità ASP e visualizzarle/navigarle in 3d con grande realismo assieme alle nostre tracce e punti di interesse.
